Last May I was pleased to see so many new Conservative councillors elected across Town. I knew these Ipswich residents well and how passionate they were about their communities.
Over the past year, many parts of town that had little or no history of having a Conservative councillor, have benefited from strong representation at both the Borough Council and County Council. As the MP covering the bulk of the Town I’ve seen first-hand the difference this has made.
Instead of engaging in petty politics local Conservative councillors have focused on the job at hand and they can all point to a record of achievement in their wards. Whether its poor road quality or misplaced chicanes many issues that have gone unaddressed by Labour councillors over many years have now been addressed. But there is much more to do.
I believe that we need change at our Borough Council. We need a Conservative-run Borough Council with vision and a can-do attitude. We also need more local Conservative ward councillors dedicated to the concerns of their residents. Sadly, on both counts, due to Labour complacency and inertia I think the Town has often been lacking both.
