Nacton Make a Change and the Nacton Community Garden arranged a big bulb plant on Queensway Park to turn the park into a spring delight of colour. Priory Heath Candidate Sam Murray attended both days with her children and got her hands dirty planting the bulbs with her fellow Priory Heath Residents. Cllr Stephen Ion also joined in on the fun Saturday.
When the first British women gained the right to vote in February 1918 celebrations were very muted because the Great War was still raging. Sylvia Pankhurst in her book The Suffragette Movement said: “the sorrows of the world conflict precluded jubilations”
The Ipswich Women’s Festival occurred last Saturday at the University building at the Waterfront. This celebrated 100 years of women getting the vote. Holywells Councillor Liz Harsant was one of the speakers during the morning.
