Ben Gummer

Ben has lived in Suffolk all his life and cares deeply about Ipswich. He lives in Ipswich, not far from the town centre, with his wife and son. After graduating from Cambridge University, Ben was appointed director of a small engineering firm and later became Managing Director of an environmental consultancy. He is passionate about music, loves travelling when he can, and grabs any opportunity to discover Suffolk pubs with his friends.

Ben was first elected as Member of Parliament for Ipswich in 2010 and in May 2015 was elected for a second term. Shortly after the election, Ben was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary for State for Health. Despite his new role, Ben insists his first priority will always be to represent the people of Ipswich. Since May Ben has already put his ‘Six Point Plan’ into motion.

Ben says, “Over the next parliament, I want to deliver on my promises to you at the election. I will campaign to bring more investment to our town centre; bring more jobs and homes to Ipswich; win funding for new roads; turn Ipswich hospital into a regional centre of excellence and ensure every Ipswich school is rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED.”

He is patron of Home Start South Suffolk, an associate governor at Ravenswood Primary School and a member of The Ipswich Society, the Friends of Ipswich Museums, the Ipswich Maritime Trust and the Ipswich Historic Churches Trust.
