Ben is thirty-three and has lived in Suffolk all his life. After studying at Cambridge University, Ben ran a small engineering firm before becoming managing director of a business that helped companies make a positive impact on society. He is passionate about music, loves travelling when he can, and grabs any opportunity to discover Suffolk pubs with his friends.

Ben was elected as Member of Parliament for Ipswich in May 2010. He is a member of the Justice Committee, which scrutinises government policy on the courts and prison system, and the Regulatory Reform Committee, which helps the government reduce red tape. Ben is also a member of the UK parliamentary delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which works for security and fair elections in Europe, America and Central Asia. Ben is a patron of the Longford Trust.

Ben lives in Ipswich, not far from Portman Road. He is a member of The Ipswich Society, the Ipswich Maritime Trust, and is a season ticket holder of Ipswich Town Football Club.
